To affiliate to CASH St Andrews
Approved 2024 AGM
This branch notes that:
Decent and affordable housing is a right that must be available to all;
Soaring rental prices, poor quality of housing stock and the scarcity of properties are issues which affect university students, university staff and the wider St Andrews community.
Fife Council declared a housing emergency on March 21st, 2024.
The housing emergency directly affects students, staff, and the wider community, making it more difficult to access affordable and safe housing.
We believe that:
Workers’ rights and housing rights are intimately linked;
Direct action is necessary to improve housing and working conditions and additionally raise awareness of both issues;
Working collectively to protect these intimately linked rights are positive steps on the path to achieving a fairer society in St Andrews and beyond.
Staff and student collaboration is necessary to address the issues faced by both groups related to work and housing most effectively.
We resolve to:
Affiliate to CASH St Andrews;
Work with, support and mobilise for CASH St Andrews events and on campaigning on these issues;
Promote each group’s events and action through the use of social media and general communication from both parties.
Meet at least once a semester with representatives from both groups to discuss common goals and issues affecting both staff and students.
