To affiliate to CASH St Andrews

Approved 2024 AGM

This branch notes that:

  • Decent and affordable housing is a right that must be available to all;

  • Soaring rental prices, poor quality of housing stock and the scarcity of properties are issues which affect university students, university staff and the wider St Andrews community.

  • Fife Council declared a housing emergency on March 21st, 2024.

  • The housing emergency directly affects students, staff, and the wider community, making it more difficult to access affordable and safe housing.

We believe that:

  • Workers’ rights and housing rights are intimately linked;

  • Direct action is necessary to improve housing and working conditions and additionally raise awareness of both issues;

  • Working collectively to protect these intimately linked rights are positive steps on the path to achieving a fairer society in St Andrews and beyond.

  • Staff and student collaboration is necessary to address the issues faced by both groups related to work and housing most effectively.

We resolve to:

  •  Affiliate to CASH St Andrews;

  •  Work with, support and mobilise for CASH St Andrews events and on campaigning on these issues;

  • Promote each group’s events and action through the use of social media and general communication from both parties.

  • Meet at least once a semester with representatives from both groups to discuss common goals and issues affecting both staff and students.
