Apply to the national and local hardship funds
Members facing 50% deductions for MAB participation can claim back from the national fighting fund. The national fund will pay £30 (for members earning more than £30,000 per annum) or £45 (for members earning less than £30,000) for each day of MAB deductions, up to a cap of 9 days. Members can apply online and will need to submit payslips as evidence (most colleagues can find these via HR Self Service from 1 week before payday).
You can also apply to the local hardship fund - information and application form here (see also the privacy notice). The local fund will pay the same rates as the national fund to a cap of £500 for each month (while funds remain available). You can apply for both local and national funds provided the total claimed (local + national) does not exceed the total deducted.
When applying to the local fund please make sure you attach all relevant payslips (e.g. if you are claiming for MAB days in May and June, be sure to attach your June and July payslips).
Turnaround times on local applications is around 7-10 working days.
